International Symposium entitled “Where Art Worlds Meet: Multiple Modernities and the Global Salon”.
Between 9th and 12th December 2005 in Venice at the Istituto Veneto di Scienze take place International Symposium entitled “Where Art Worlds Meet: Multiple Modernities and the Global Salon”. The purpose was to re-examine the complex origins and development of the Venice Biennale, consider its current functions and organisation and cast an eye into the future in a context in which the model it created over a century ago has been extended to over a hundred cities and countries. Over thirty speakers from many countries including university lecturers, critics, artists, museum directors and curators was contribute to a broad debate on the proliferation and transformation of a phenomenon which first appeared with the Venice Biennale. On 13 December, also at the Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti, there will be a Symposium entitled "Vision, Space and Desire: Global Perspectives and Cultural Hybridity", curated by Dr. Gerald McMaster.
